TRANSCRIPT: And now we're going to be doing Knuckle Petrissage. This is great for the lower back, getting into the quadranus lamborum which is from the lower rib to the iliac crest. Keeping the wrists straight, and a soft fist, I use my knuckles to get into the soft tissue. You can do this along the back, just make sure that your wrist is aligned with your arm, using proper body mechanics. And also, I can knuckle the erector spinae up against the spine. This is a great way to save your fingers as well. You can go into the glutes, doing the Knuckle Petrissage with these are major muscle groups, which is very relaxing and soothing. It relieves a lot of tension. And that is Knuckle Petrissage.

TRANSCRIPT: Now we're going to move on to the effleurage strokes. I'm going to move the sheet down to expose the lower back, and do not break contact while I apply the oil. Effleurage is a gliding stroke. It begins the Swedish massage to warm the muscles for deeper work. I like to anchor my hand on the back, and slowly move around the side of the body, connecting the whole back. Keeping my shoulders relaxed, and my wrists straight. Effleurage is great because it connects you to other parts of the body as well. I can move down the back, up and around the arms. It's a soft, gentle but firm pressure. Coming around the neck, give a little tug to the occipital ridge. And again, down the sides of the spine. Make sure that you get the whole sides of the body so they feel connected and comforted. And that is effleurage.

TRANSCRIPT: Now we're going to be showing you Muscle Stripping. We don't always use Muscle Stripping with Swedish massage, but it can be gentle enough and effective enough for relaxation purposes. So I'm going to show you some stripping techniques. I like to anchor my thumb over my other thumb, anchoring my other finger so they don't slip away. They are soft, but they are still firm on the body, and most of my pressure is going to come from my thumbs. I'm going to find the muscle, we're going to be working on the erectors again. And I'm going to lean with my legs and my body, down through the muscle. Stripping separates the fibers of the muscle. So, when circulation, when blood flows into the area it can help heal. Then I can move to the rhomboids, again anchoring my thumb, bending with my knee and my body into the pressure. We can do stripping pretty much any where, just watch for your bony landmarks. Then we can move into the upper traps. Bend your knees low to the ground so you don't hurt your lower back. And with a soft fist, use your thumb to anchor your other thumb and move across the upper traps. And that's Muscle Stripping.

Create a routine that's healthy.
Most important ingredient in relaxation is to BREATHE. I cannot stress that enough.
Breathe slowly and deeply for a few breaths, close your eyes and picture yourself in your favorite place.
Drink lots of water regularly.
Laugh.
Hug someone you love
BREATHE.
